SOCIAL SAILING

Want to give sailing a go? Try Social Sailing!

Our social sailing is a great way to get involved with the club and out on the water, whether you've had a go sailing before or never set foot in a boat.

We sail at All Aboard in the picturesque Bristol Harbour at Baltic Warf Sailing Club on Wednesday Afternoons, finishing in time to get ready for the evening social!

We aim to give those involved the basic skills to sail a boat independently and get some RYA qualifications out the back of it! Once we've done a few of the basics, we hope to get down to Chew as much as we can.

You will be taught by our club members, who are RYA qualified instructors, in boats such as Hartley 10's and 12's.

Later in the year, once we've covered some of the basics, we aim to take social sailors down to Chew Valley Lake Sailing Club (where our team racers go to train!) to practice their skills in a larger sailing space and in a wider variety of boats.

It's loads of fun and we can't wait to get out on the water!

"What can I say about social sailing this year?…

There aren’t enough words in the English dictionary apt enough to describe the seafaring shenanigans that took place over the course of the year. Suffice to say, if you join the maritime mob, you will have a right laugh and meet some of the friendliest, best looking people in Bristol.

Whether you’re still trying to find your sea legs or are a seasoned sailing specialist, social sailing gives you the opportunity to sit back and relax on the calm ocean that is the Bristol Harbourside. There, you’re encouraged to spread your wings (or sails) and bathe in the wondrous glory that is the phenomena of being pushed along by the wind whilst sitting in a polyethylene tub.

You can take part as frequently, or infrequently, as you like, you’ll always be welcomed with open arms.

Even if you aren’t sailing savvy, you’ll quickly go from novice to know-it-all in just a matter of hours - trust me, I know! I learned how to capsize a dinghy from every angle imaginable, and that is no easy feat! I must add however, those dinghies weren’t mine… this is simply a friendly reminder to always bring a spare set of dry clothes, with my poor victims failing to heed this advice. Yes, you can take part in piratical affairs if you want, or just have a chilled cruise!

The sessions are truly diverse and guaranteed to be great fun! So get involved, you won’t regret it"  - Isaac Aldridge, 3rd Year
