Social Sailing!

Our social sailors are an integral part of the club, and vary from people who have sailed and competed a lot, just wanting a chilled, fun afternoon of sailing each week, to complete beginners wanting to learn a new sport from our qualified instructors – other members of the club! Over the winter we’ve had a hardened group of up to 12 sailors, who regularly sail on a Wednesday afternoon in all weathers and temperatures. As a club we have devised our own program based on RYA criteria for our sailors to follow so that they can track their own progress over the year and work towards qualifications. So far we’ve had many perfectly windy days, land-based theory days, a BBQ and even Christmas mulled wine and mince pie sailing! It is a fun and relaxed way for people to get into or maintain their sailing at university.

“Social sailing this year has been a whole lot of fun! I joined because I really miss being on the water since I'm a true beach and coast girl at heart! Every week we learn a new skill and get shown how to apply it for gaining qualifications later on. A lot of social sailors joined yachting too, which was great! It’s a great group who love a pint at the pub after sailing and a laugh! We're all looking forward to getting qualified and just love catching up with a lovely group of mates every week.. What else are Wednesday afternoons for?” Aimee Green, 2nd year French and German
