Team Racing Update!

This year we had 45 fresher’s trialing to be a part of the team racing at Bristol University, and with 4 teams, competition for the 30 places available set us up for a strong year. After the teams were picked it was straight into training for the competitions in the first term at oxford, Cardiff, Sheffield and our home event at chew valley lake sailing club. Our teams gave a good account of themselves at all of these events however the best was yet to come.

The second term started with the qualifiers for the BUCS/BUSA national finals, and following a strong weekend of racing the Bristol First team (Joe Burns, Vix Williams, Ed Haynes ©, Issy Gordon, Alice Kidd and Jonas Osborn) ended the qualifiers in 4th place meaning they automatically progress to the finals in early April. The second team were on track to qualify for the playoffs when their progress was halted by an injury to one of their team. Due to earlier substitutions we had no more reserves available to sail and they were therefore forced to withdraw from the competition.

We look forward now to the remainder of the season with events in Cambridge, Nottingham, London, and Exeter culminating with the finals at west Kirby sailing club just before Easter!
