Yachting Update!

Yachting has really kicked off this year with over 20 people being introduced to yachting over 2 weekends so far!

We have rented 40 foot Sunsail First Match 40s from Sunsail in Port Solent and explored the South Coast, making a passage down to Lymington and also making the most of the space in Hayling Bay to get to grips with the spinnakers! With a mix of abilities on board 2 of the 8 berth yachts everyone on board has come away learning something new as we have mixed around positions to give everyone a go at skipper, nav, trimming, mast and bow. We hope that people will now have the skills to complete either a day skipper or competent crew course with Sunsail over the summer to progress even further.

The weather has definitely been on our side so far despite being very cold we had 2 days of force 3-4 and 2 days of force 1-2… and only 1 broach so far!! (everyone stayed on board…)

It is an exciting time as the team for the BUCS Yachting Nationals has been selected and will take part in the Sunsail Racing Series at the end of March in preparation for the event 9-13th April all based in Portsmouth. It is highly competitive with around 24 university teams competing in the Sunsail First Match 40s over 4 days – Bring it on!

Yachting is also going abroad this summer joining Summer Sail Week in Croatia!! Watch this space for more information!
